Thirty-one men were arrested in Motobas, Kafr al-Sheikh, on Monday for planning to immigrate to Italy illegally.

Major General Salah Okasha, the director of the security department in Kafr El-Sheikh, was informed by Motobas police that someone had complained about suspicious activity in the house of a neighbour. A team of officers, headed by Brigadier General Sayed Sultan, the director of the criminal investigation department in West Kafr El-Sheikh, raided the property, where they discovered 31 men preparing to immigrate to Italy illegally.

Investigations revealed that the men were from six governorates across Egypt, including Daqahlia, Alexandria, Beheira, Monufiya, Sharqiya, Minya and Gharbiya. They met in Kafr El-Sheikh in order to attempt to cross the Mediterranean and illegally enter Italy.

The defendants admitted to each paying LE30,000 to four brokers in return for assistance in completing the journey. The prosecution is now looking to find and arrest the brokers.
